Many stars show the glamorous beauty, some shiny and bling bling that put a lot of effort to look perfect for a show. But this girl is different. She’s what they call the cliché of a beauty, the what-you-see-is-what-you-get girl. Renata Kusmanto is what the designers and fashion workers mostly describe as the neo classic aristocratic elegant smiling Indonesian beauty. Too long a description? Well, they have reasons. As one of famous models in Indonesia, with all the modesty and charm she poses, Renata is one in a million.

Renata came from a strict family in Semarang, Central Java, where education is most important issue. She spent her childhood by obeying parent’s strict rule. Every day after school she had to study in her room and then go to bed. Hence no wonder the youngest of two siblings in family became the top rank student since elementary until graduated from high school. Graduating from University, Renata got acquainted with modeling by accident when she took a working practice for her thesis. Following several castings, Renata received her first ad, Pond’s TV ad the ‘Snow White’ version in 2004. Her soft face and mysterious smile made people felt in love with her right away, but scarcely knew her name.

After the first ad, Renata became the model for famous Indonesian designers and appears in aplenty fashion spreads, fashion pages and magazines as well. Catwalks after catwalks are getting her way as a runway model. For most of designers, Renata, with her elegant and aristocratic composure, is best to represent the truly Indonesian national cloth, such as Batik and Kebaya. People began to notice Renata because of her resemble looks and name with the famous Mariana Renata, a gorgeous model who’s already renowned at the time. It’s a coincidence that in fact Mariana and Renata are cousins and their mothers are twins. However, some people still confuse to distinguish between both.

Renata grew to be better well known for her appearance in some music videos of prominent musicians. The smiling beauty is maybe the most productive model in music videos at the moment. Her skill in expressing the feelings of the songs brought her as the Best Model in a Video MTV Indonesia Awards 2006. Her classic face and posture attracted famous perfume Bvlgari to select Renata as the icon for their product. The simple girl also became the icon for multinational cosmetic company to promote the Indonesian beauty. Although she’s become the high-demand model, Renata is far from the models’ image who live in glamorous, all night long partygoers, and being some socialites. In contrary, Renata is just a timid serene girl who went to the club for twice in her lifetime and refuses the jobs over 10pm. Renata never even allows her parent to watch her shows because she’s too shy.

The soft-spoken girl admits she doesn’t have exclusive character as a model yet she tries to perform her profession the best she can. Renata is not a daydreaming girl. Her biggest passion is not to be a top model, but to open an art gallery instead. As a woman, Renata tries to go with the flow following things before her eyes. For her, beauty doesn’t have to be in touch with fashion trend, physical appearance or certain lifestyle, which demands the preservation of a beauty. Think simple and live simple, that’s what makes her comfortable. Renata is a cliché person. However, as the beauty and prettiness has become the subject of philosophers study since thousand years ago, cliché is not always boring. Cliché can mean a true image of a beautiful side of character that cannot be duplicated. That’s simply Renata Kusmanto.
